The little blak smock in Venise .2. Chapter. At home. b

The little blak smock in Venise. 2. Chapter. At home. b

In those years there is not much prosperity.
The wardrobe is reduced to the essential.
I have a party dress that my mother bought at the Mercerie from the "elegant child".
Mrs. Nella is the owner of the shop.
Plump little girl with chubby cheeks; as soon as we cross the front door, he welcomes us with a dazzling smile.
Strange, I think, he has never seen us before and he seems to have known us all along.
Shopkeepers must always be nice to customers if it is better that they change jobs.
"I would like a dress for this child's confirmation" asks my mother.
"This prince of Wales is very good to be a beautiful child" mentions the lady In waving her golden bracelets under my nose and clinking the hanging amulets, drawing my attention.
In two seconds, Mrs. Rosa has framed us and served us just right because the gray-style dress I really like very much.
When we return to the bar my father is satisfied with the purchase of that new dress: "It takes a good hair. Goes to Tofani "he suggests smiling.
Tofani is a bar customer who has been selling Borsalino hats for a lifetime in a shop located at the foot of the Rialto Bridge.
"Look how beautiful a child" Tofani repeats to me when we arrive.
Surely it was forewarned by my father who explained that he needed a new hat for ometo.
The saleswoman, seeing that we are friends of the owner, accentuates the natural dowry of courtesy of the Venetian shopkeepers, traders who have always been accustomed to compliment those who buy their goods.
"Here I am shooting a beautiful hair," he says with a twenty-four-toothed smile.
When he opens his mouth it looks like a beaver and I have to put a hand in front of my face to hide an expression of ungraceful teasing.
He pulls out a not very wide-brimmed hat from the shelves, which he instinctively caresses from the side of the hair with a black velvet brush.
It is gray and fits in with the newly purchased Prince of Wales dress.
It is love at first sight.
It is certainly not a sign of exaggerated consumerism, we are buying the things that are strictly necessary.
The only sign of luxury in the family is a black Balilla.
For Venice owning a car is a great luxury especially if you do not use it for work - but certainly you do not sail in gold. The car is sometimes used on Sundays.
It's always a big party to go around with the Balilla.
Leaving the island crossing the Liberty Bridge is always an emotion. It is a matter of breaking a siege, of winning that laziness that leads to a certain isolation inherent in the structure of the city.
The father in the rare days of rest that you take, especially in winter when the Bar works less, takes us for a walk in the car for the Veneto countryside to have a snack in the taverns.
During the war - he participated in the Russian campaign - he was a truck driver.
Driving for him is not a problem. Venetian motorists are always ready to make fun of the Venetians for their lack of driving ability due to the fact that they drive little if they do not use the car for work.
My father's driving style is safe and prevents joking comments.
Usually the purpose of the trip is the search for taverns that serve some particular snack, perhaps based on sopressa or fried cod.
The father looks for those who offer a good glass of clinton. His favorite half is from "Sporco" in Treviso.
It is nice to immerse yourself in the green of the Via del Terraglio breathe a bit of scent of grass and maybe stop somewhere in the countryside to see, in spring, the fields that start to sprout.
The snack is a typical way to end in joy a day of vacation based on cicheti, fritata, hard eggs, fried cod, creamed or Vicentine if you add a plate of sopressa the snack is perfect. Eating and drinking is easy for my father to socialize with other customers of the local who want to participate in their stories or their jokes to spend time in the company.

The little blak smock in Venise. 2. Chapter. At home. a

When he does not work he goes to the hospital.
Suffering makes him very sensitive to the misfortunes of others.
If there is any customer who complains that business is bad, he is his first client of the day.
Father bought the Encyclopedia of the Italian boy from a friend when I do not know how to read "So you need it ....." so justifies his good heart.
The representative of books is very young, tall and thin; he always wears a huge heavy bag of black leather from which he draws huge heavy volumes bound with beautiful colored cardboard covers to show them in vision.
Andrea "poor", says my father, needs to make a certain production.
"Buy an encyclopedia Giani go need to work" he keeps repeating.
It is a call that my father could not resist.
To tell the truth, when I started reading, I really appreciated this work suitable for young people.
The Encyclopedia of the Italian boy shows in a section the most beautiful tales; I love reading those stories very much.
The red cover with gold lettering gives a certain importance not only to the book, but also to the reader.
I am proud and a little worried because their heaviness puts a strain on the unstable balance of my table.
My new room has built it specially tailor-made Gusso, also called planer of gold, a legendary carpenter from Treviso.
Of course, the measures took really bad: the white cherry cabinet is too large to be placed on the short side of the room for this, having to place it on the long side, the aesthetic is irretrievably violated by the manufacturer.
Yet Gusso came personally and apparently, with accurate precision, took the tape several times and checked the length of the short side.
The table is immediately shaky - the legs must have been attached with a little 'glue of dubious quality - and does not give the idea of excessive strength, so that it does not seem able to even support my subsidiary elementary.
The chair, covered with green leather, is the only piece that gives a certain satisfaction, fortunately holds great to my weight.
Even the bathroom was redone by a friend of the bar; perhaps this is why the drain box embedded in the wall never works properly and every so often it is necessary to call the manufacturer to perform an appropriate repair.
"Always call my friends and they always cheat him," says my mother.
"It's good," he says patiently.
"It's three times good", say the hardest ones on the other hand.
My father is simply a person who has been accustomed to life from suffering and therefore, knowing the suffering he seeks, if he can, to alleviate the small inconveniences that life brings to those in difficult situations.
After all, having a little pleasure or an insignificant courtesy costs sometimes very little.
All we need to do is overcome our petty selfishness.
I remember that time that led me to find his friend Fuffo small, plump, with callused hands and a bitter smile; the slightly crooked mouth often leaves an unlit cigarette, which, he says, lasts longer.
Fuffo must not pass too well: He lives in a house on the top floor behind Campo S. Silvestro after the Sottoportico della Pasina.
The staircase is steep and in the stairwell there is a bad smell of mold that matches with the peeling plaster.
The wife works at home: she makes a shirt.
My father has his shirts made, not because he wants us to have tailored shirts, but to earn something for his friend who, for the moment, has not yet found work after a sudden dismissal.
I remember that my father after saying goodbye to Mrs. Rosa, takes the shirts, then pays them, after having kissed their little son, who is about my age, gives him a rich tip, perhaps to integrate the bill with elegance.
"You see Nico" he says to me at the exit "There are so many people who suffer and we, who are better, we have to help."

The little blak smock in Venise. 2. Chapter. At home.

2. Chapter. At home.

I live with my mother, father and grandfather Nicola, my grandmother Graziella and my aunt Antonia.
The three bedrooms, enough for the whole family, are a luxury for Venice.
There is only one bathroom and the heating is charcoal.
In the entrance door there is a deposit where the charcoal unloads its goods, which we then transport to the upper floor from time to time.
The stove is located in the entrance, located in the center of the house; it is, therefore, in the ideal position to heat it all.
In the farthest rooms, the temperature is fresh and, as the mother says, she often hugs the stove to make a supply of heat as if to store it.
In the entrance stands a radio inserted in a mobile bar.
The rounded doors open and inside there are many small mirrors glued together next to each other that cover the entire surface with a thousand reflections.
The radio is the meeting point for those who remain at home; the device is above all a great company for the grandfather Nicola who places himself on the sofa and listens to opera romances that once he went to listen to the Phoenix and the fashion motifs: "La campagnola bella" and "Vivere" are his favorite.
Once when he was young, he was at home in the Fenice camp in S. Fantin; he had his place at the Bar del Teatro.
He was a regular visitor to all the operas and all the performances, there had to be a serious reason not to find a replacement for the tavern.
It was his only fun. He had never had a day off in his life: he always worked every day of the holy year.
In the evening it is not very late. I, who am a child, at ten I'm in bed. Others listen to the radio or talk about the day's affairs.
You leave little; only the summer to cool off is to eat the ice cream on the Riva del Carbon where the water from the channel cools the summer heat.
In the kitchen there is an icebox where the mother places the most perishable foods, especially the fish that goes to buy at the Rialto market.
In the storage room there is a zinc tub that uses the Maria weekly to do the laundry.
Maria is a resident of Chioggia robust with a large round face and rubizzo that lives going to the houses to wash clothes.
I really enjoy helping her wash the tissues and she laughs to see my commitment even if I spray the water out of the mastea in the heat of washing.
"You have a good Nicheto," he says, laughing.
The apartment is considered modest for the mainland but "so beautiful and so ungrateful", as Mrs Emma says, "we are the ones who live by the shops selling the fish".
To live in Venice historic center or you are "great lord" or you have to "settle".
To be content there are less and less because the flow of the Venetians towards the mainland seems unstoppable.
All those who care about the city and its inhabitants have not been able to resist a form of development that has changed the face of the city itself.
This transformation places obstacles on the citizens themselves because the housing available to city residents is less and less.
The costs of restoring the houses, for the most part built at the time of the Serenissima, are very high.
Difficult to find the amenities such as the elevator or the heating system that are normal in the most recent constructions built on the mainland where new families tend to relocate.
The historic center is flooded with hotels and guesthouses that contend with the spaces available to homes.
My father has an ice cream parlor.
It produces the best Rialto ice creams.
He speaks little, works a lot.

The little blak smock in Venise. 1. Chapter. The first day of school.1b

We advance to the Salizzada di S. Lio. This is a completely normal way with many shops that overlook, known that the color typical of Rialto stalls is missing.
It is an elegant road that leads to Piazza S. Marco.
Just before the Calle delle Bande we take a long narrow street on the left that leads to a right angle on the small foundation full of children.
Just a dozen children accompanied by their mothers to create a crowding.
The narrow entrance that opens on the right does not allow a quick access in the entrance hall of the Institute.
My mother was a student of the Institute's nuns.
It is an obligation for me to follow this family tradition.
The children entered immediately because it is impossible to wait outside: the foundation is too small.
The nun in charge of the concierge greets us with a smile that tries to hide her gruff and a little grumbling air, softening her angular face; tells us to get up to the first floor.
A courtyard opens up next to it.
The wisteria climb up the wall that borders the canal. I've never seen such beautiful flowers in the city.
"That's the courtyard where you're going to play," he mutters in a tone that is intended to be captivating by the nun door.
I notice immediately that the Institute does not speak in the Venetian language.
Come on, come on! the staircase seems to me an impassable climb; at the end we come out into a large room where there are many children with a black apron and a white collar.
Someone is happy. Second and third school children laugh and joke with their friends.
Those of fourth and fifth class are group apart. They feel like veterans and do not mix with the little ones.
Others cry. They are the first grade students who still have to digest the first day of school and can not get away from their mothers' skirts.
There is a great noise.
"I do not want to be here" sobbing a little girl shaking her head and swinging the blonde braids.
She, like me, obviously did not attend kindergarten, she is not used to leaving her mother's protective skirts and has not yet socialized with her peers.
The smile and the maternal caresses can not cheer her up, but the consolation can only be found after she leaves.
That's why the nun tries to push the woman out of the door to break that umbilical connection.
I too would have preferred to stay home.
Get around playing with toy soldiers.
Talking from the balcony with Mrs. Emma or going upstairs to keep company with Uncle Pasquale and Aunt Nina.
From today I have to go to school every day.
How boring! What's up for giving up my favorite games, not seeing my best friends, skip the midday meal, maybe to Uncle Pasquale's kitchen, to be there nailed to a wooden bench to make auctions.
The auctions that do not even come too straight: what a disaster!
It is an injustice because I am only five years old and compulsory schooling begins at six if you do not choose to attend a private institute of nuns.
I would like to protest, but no one listens to me in the family and I have no chance with the nuns to make me feel because their discipline does not admit replies. I have to stay there and give up my little pleasures.
Enough dry pasta, I have to be content with what passes the convent.
Above all, vegetable soup. The soup nightmare is constant every day. There is only the hope of a miracle that sustains me: one day, I am sure, the long-awaited dry pasta will come.
I hate vegetables: always cooked vegetables that fills a stale building with a nauseating smell!
The intense smell of the vegetable soup dominates every possible good smell of the nuns' kitchen.
Fortunately, the second I bring it home: today octopus, tomorrow cutlet with the inevitable sweet bun with raisins. A bit 'of goodness between so despised vegetable soup. Eating there is a torture that makes you forget every pleasure of the table even for a palate not as refined as that of a child.

Gentiloni Missione militare in Niger

Egregio direttore
distinti saluti
Cesare Fedeli

The little blak smock in Venise . 1. Chapter. The first day of school.1a

Many people are there for work reasons and are in a hurry to move on.
Others are there for vacation.
Tourists are immediately noticed because they linger on the marble balustrades that delimit the ramps to see the boat traffic and the view.
"Attention to the legs" shout the boys who push the carts cluttered with goods for the market.
In that general confusion I shield myself from the presence of my mother that I use as a ram to cleave the crowd.
On one side of the canal, the sumptuous palaces that symbolize the richness of the Republic are inserted one after the other: on the right stands the Istrian stone cladding of the Palazzo dei Dieci Savi, followed by the Palazzo Papadopoli, with a shy tree it can be glimpsed despite the imposing construction, the Palazzo Bernardo, Palazzo Grimani, Palazzo Pisani and at the end Palazzo Balbi, which watches over the canal's canal; on the left the stern Palazzo Manin the most festive Palazzo Loredan and Palazzo Spinelli before the curved canal to the left one can see the Palazzi Mocenigo.
On the other side, the canal turns abruptly to the left, forcing the captains of the waterbuses and the boats to a careful maneuver and then continue straight.
On the right some hopeful tourist hopes to see again on the walls of the Fondaco dei Tedeschi the traces of the frescoes, now destroyed by the saltiness, of the young Giorgione; immediately afterwards Cà da Monster, Palazzo Michiel delle Colonne rise up and by making appropriate contortions some more attentive guests of the city can catch a glimpse of the incredible marble decorations of the Cà D'Oro.
On the left you can see the Palazzo dei Camerlenghi, then the Fondamenta della Pescheria runs straight down the Palazzo Corner della Regina and Palazzo Pesaro which can only be seen after descending from the last steps of the bridge.
The glories of the Republic of the Lion re-emerge from the obscurity of time whenever the memory of citizens or tourists who know that story awakens it.
The monuments bring to light the glories of these Venetians, prodigious protagonists of their time.
We get refreshed by the descent into Campo San Bortolomio and turn around the statue of Daniele Manin.
The father of the Venetian Republic had in vain attempted to resist the Austrians whom Napoleon had sold the Serenissima in the name of the principles of liberty, equality and fraternity.
"Look, there's money behind the Manin's back," says my mother smiling, pointing to the headquarters of the Cassa di Risparmio di Venezia.
We enter the Sotoportego de la Bissa.
It seems impossible to go from the light of the field to the darkness of the streets that cross the porch.
Venice is so unpredictable, secret, full of twists and turns, the ideal stage of the comedy of life that we all recite every day.
I would immediately stop in the rotisserie where a tantalizing scent of food comes from and where I can admire a captivating riot of colors that burst from the trays placed on the long counter: the white of creamed cod, the black of cuttlefish, the yellow of mozzarella cheese in carriages - just removed from the hot oil of frying - the brown orange of the lobsters, the dark gray of the crabs.
"May we eat a mozzarella cheese?" I ask myself beforehand because we never know that there are other programs.
"Yes, yes, but now we are late."
Arrived at the Ponte Storto back to see a slice of heaven because in Venice if you do not get out of the tangle of the Calli you can not look at the sky for its entirety.
We are already halfway "This bridge and that calle  is missing and after we arrived," confirms my mother.

The little blak smock in Venise . 1. Chapter. The first day of school.1

1. Chapter. The first day of school.

It's me that little boy with a round face, slightly protruding cheekbones and a line on the right side that divides his thick brown hair.
It 's the first day of school, I can not take it easy that day, although, to tell the truth, it is my mother never to be ready. Way sent on the steps of the Rialto bridge.
"Hurry up Nicheto". My mother keeps repeating.
This sudden change of habits left me especially perplexed.
I don't understand way: I can't wake up as usual with convenience, I can not stay there to play with his grandfather Nicola to convince him to buy the new toy soldiers.
I can not go down on the street to find friends forever, but on the contrary I have to rush to run up and down the bridges and the streets of Venice to arrive on time.
What a dog's life! I'm only five years old and I did not go to kindergarten.
I'm a little worried because I have to stop at school for breakfast too. The nuns prepare the first one, I ardently hope that the institute's cook will cook well. I'm fond of pasta, as my chubby cheeks show.
I am used to a Venetian meal: spaghetti with clams or with black, risotto de bosega, and sometimes even lasagne maybe even the fish pie. How will I give up all this for a whole week? Luckily, I eat at home in the evening and on holidays.
My mother carries a wicker basket with the second plat.
It's too big and too heavy for me.
I wear a black apron with a white collar, like all the children attending the Institute.
From Rialto the road is long, if there are also heavy weights to bring I can not do it right.
I quickly descend the irrational steps of the house and I look surprised at my new uniform in Calle dei Cinque.
Will my acquaintances of the Ruga Rialto recognize me?
Nicola the baker is the first to greet me "If you work still?" He asks me laughing.
The smell of baked bread for a few hours awakens my appetite.
I am immediately distracted by the salesperson's greeting that invites me to spend the afternoon to see the latest arrivals.
The noise of Ruga shopkeepers' voices distracts me.
It is the echoes of bargaining that the stall merchants, placed in the front line of the shops that border the Ruga, do with customers.
It sells all linen, shoes, Burano lace and Murano glass, but above all fruit and vegetables.
The noise, the colors and the aromas of the Naranzeria constitute the best testimony of a vital Venice that finds its fascination now in danger of extinction in the serene repetition of the colorful daily representations of its inhabitants.
Without the everyday stories of the Venetians, the city is destined to become a museum with many, many tourists who emulate the barbarian invader, gradually tearing the lifeblood from the city of the lion.
We cut through the most hidden alleys that wedged next to St. John the Elemosinario where fewer people pass to go more quickly
Halfway through the Ruga degli Orefici at the church of S. Giacomo di Rialto. We have just left and we have already passed two churches where I punctually mark the cross following the example of my mother.
Before crossing the bridge, I immediately suggest to my travel companion a stop at the bakery in Lino; there he sells the sweet bread with raisins that I eat for snack at five.
Lino, the bread retailer, has a little shop located in a 10-square-meter at the Rialto bridge.
It is so tight that customers can enter two at a time but there is a smell of really inviting freshly baked bread.
"Stop here!" I beg my mother pulling my skirt.
"Yes, but I'll be late."
Lino quickly understands our haste and needs us in a flash: "good scholl" encourages me.
The steps of the bridge are many. The white border is slippery due to the humidity of the night which has not yet dried out.
I go up that imposing climb. There are no alternatives. It is a real demanding climb for a child of six years.
You can not even take the ferry because the gondola transport is an alternative to the lack of canal crossings and here is the bridge. The gondoliers have not thought of us little school children !!!
The bridge stands on the canal at the height necessary to allow boats to pass; the two wings of botegas that accompany it only apparently disguise the real elevation.

The architect Da Ponte has certainly thought of all this overcrowding. It should not be so different from that of the late sixteenth century when the first of the Venetian bridges. It was built to connect the two banks of the Grand Canal where the life and commerce of the thriving city took place with greater intensity after Lepanto.

Bonus Bebé. superamento del limite di reddito

Bonus 80 euro, aumentano i beneficiari.

Grembiulino nero 2

2.     Capitolo. A casa.

Ti xe proprio bravo Nicheto” mi dice ridendo.
Parla poco, lavora molto.
Comprime na enciclopedia Giani go bisogno de lavorar” gli continua a ripetere .
El ciama sempre i so amighi e i lo imbrogia sempre” dice mia madre.
Basta solo vincere i nostri gretti egoismi.
Ti vedi Nico” mi dice all’uscita “Ghe xe tanta gente che patisse e noialtri, che stemo megio, dovemo darghe na man.”
Il guardaroba è ridotto all’essenziale.
E’ amore a prima vista.
